The most popular player-made Roblox games tend to fall into a few categories:

  • Simulators — games where a character completes tasks, earns coins, and gradually unlocks new content

Your First Scene and Environment

After choosing a template, the starting scene opens. This is where a child gets to know the editor's core tools: moving, rotating, and scaling objects; changing materials and colors; adjusting the height and width of platforms.
At this stage, a child can already build a small obstacle course. A few platforms, a couple of walls, and one moving part are enough for a first level. In the process, they learn to look at the level through two sets of eyes at once: the player trying to get through it, and the developer designing how it works. That dual perspective is how you start to understand how individual blocks add up to a complete game world.

Once the location is ready, it's time for the part that many kids come to Roblox for in the first place: making objects respond to what the player does. In Roblox Studio, this is handled by scripts written in Lua. This is where a child discovers that making a game means not just building with models, but programming.

Basic Actions and Events

Every map has events: a character jumps, lands on a platform, touches a checkpoint, picks up an item. Simple scripts can respond to all of these:
  • A platform disappears a few seconds after the player steps on it

  • Touching a coin adds to the score and removes the coin from the world

Publishing Your Game and Inviting Friends

When the map runs reliably, it's time to publish. In the File menu, select Publish to Roblox As… — the project will be uploaded to the Roblox servers. At this step, set a clear title, write a short description, upload a thumbnail, and configure access. The game can be private (only you), accessible by link, or open to all users.
After publishing, the project appears in the list of created games in the account section. Your child can send the link to friends — presenting themselves as the author, the designer, and a beginning programmer all at once.
